Each year we employ a number of undergraduates on supervised work placements. Undergraduates on placement with Michael Dyson Associates Ltd are provided with continuous development opportunities with an emphasis on site based learning, supplemented with individual and group based training throughout the placement.
This year sees six undergraduates commence their year out placements with Michael Dyson Associates Ltd.
Daniel May and Matthew Osborne are studying Building Surveying at Nottingham Trent University; they joined us in July 2009 for a fourteen month placement before returning to complete their final year of study in September 2010.
Daniel is employed within the Surveying department in the role of assistant fieldwork manager. His duties include carrying out stock condition surveys, validating other surveyors work and managing a team of external fieldworkers. He will also have the opportunity to carry out a variety of other surveys including cavity wall, decent homes, measured and HHSRS surveys.
Matthew is working within the Engineering department and will be primarily involved in surveys of non-traditional properties, external renovation scheme management and the inspection of reinstatement of non-traditional properties for private owner clients. Matthew will also have the opportunity to be involved in document preparation, specifications and drawings for improvement programmes on private sector housing works.
Ben Raybould is studying Architectural Technology at Nottingham Trent University; he joined us in June 2009 on a fifteen month placement before returning to complete his final year of study in September 2010. Ben is employed in the Design Team where his duties include site surveying and measurement, production of construction drawings and production of planning and building applications.
Oliver Day is studying Construction & Property Management at Nottingham Trent University; he joined us in July 2009 on a 14 month placement before returning to complete his final year of study in September 2010. He is site based in a role which mainly involves inspection and approval of works, along with assisting site managers in solving day to day issues. He is also involved in surveying, general project management and administration.
David Blakeley is studying Building Surveying at Leeds Metropolitan University; he joined us in July 2009 on a fourteen month placement before returning to complete his final year of study in September 2010. He currently works in the Surveying Department as an assistant fieldwork manager. His duties include carrying out a variety of surveys including, stock condition, decent homes, measured and validation surveys alongside general building surveying activities
Alex Lewis is studying Construction Management at Leeds Metropolitan University; he joined us in November 2009 on a ten month placement before returning to complete his final year of study in September 2010. He currently works in the Surveying Department as an assistant fieldwork manager. His duties include carrying out a variety of surveys including stock condition, decent homes, measured and validation surveys alongside general building surveying activities. He is also being supported by Michael Dyson Associates Limited in his aim to become accredited to the Chartered Institute of Buidling (CIOB).
We are committed to supporting our undergraduates to complete a successful placement and strive to develop their skills and experiences to ensure success in their chosen future careers.
Michael Dyson Associates Ltd is an approved training organisation with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) meaning our training and development programmes are regulated by and in accordance with the professional standards of both institutes.

Michael Brown, BSc (Hons)
Michael Brown joined Michael Dyson Associates Ltd on his year out placement from Nottingham Trent University in 2006. Following the successful completion of his Building Surveying degree, he now works full time in our Contracts & Design Department as a Project Manager. Michael is currently undertaking RICS APC training towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor.
Ryan Twigg, BSc (Hons)
Ryan Twigg joined Michael Dyson Associates Ltd in June 2004 on a year out placement from Leeds Metropolitan University; Ryan returned to full time employment with Michael Dyson Associates Ltd in 2006 as a Project Manager in the Contracts & Design Department. Ryan has worked on a variety of projects ranging from validation surveys to multi million pound housing refurbishment schemes.
