Each year we employ a number of undergraduates on supervised work placements. Undergraduates on placement with Michael Dyson Associates Ltd are provided with continuous development opportunities with an emphasis on site based learning, supplemented with individual and group based training throughout the placement.
This year sees six undergraduates commence their year out placements with Michael Dyson Associates Ltd.
Ben Jackson is employed as an undergraduate Architectural Technician at Michael Dyson Associates Ltd. He commenced a 12 month placement from Sheffield Hallam University where he is studying a degree in Architectural Technology. He is currently employed within the design team with duties including producing construction drawings, carrying out measured surveys and using 3D modelling software for presentation purposes.
Adam Wood is employed as a Assistant Fieldwork Manager within the Asset Management Team. He commenced his placement with us in August 2014 and will return to complete his Building Surveying degree at Sheffield Hallam University in September 2015. His role involves carrying out stock condition surveys, validations, HHSRS and measured surveys along with the management and quality control of external fieldwork surveyors on projects throughout the UK. He is also involved with carrying out intrusive surveys which are carried out on Non-Traditional properties and medium to high rise tower blocks.
Tom Cansfield commenced his 12 month placement in June 2014. Studying towards a degree in Building Surveying, he will return to The University of the West of England in September 2015. His role as a Project Assistant involves carrying out quality and progress inspections, stock condition surveys, measured surveys and dealings with the Party Wall Award. Tom is currently undertaking his APC in order to work towards becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.
Lydia Stronge is employed as an Assistant Fieldwork Manager within the Asset Management Team. She commenced a 12 month placement with us from Plymouth University in August 2014 and will return to complete her Building Surveying degree in September 2015. Lydia’s role involves carrying out stock condition surveys, validation, HHSRS, measured surveys and invasive structural surveys along with the management and quality control of external fieldwork surveyors on projects throughout the UK.
Sophie Sytrin, a student from Leeds Beckett University studying Building Surveying, has joined Michael Dyson Associates Ltd on a 12 month placement before returning to study in September. Employed as a Project Assistant within the Contracts & Design team, she is primarily involved with non-traditional property repairs and refurbishments, carrying out site visits, participating in progress meetings, compiling documents such as F10’s, Pre-Construction information, Health & Safety files and other general CDM Co-ordinator/Contract Admin duties.
Josh Woolhouse is a student at Northumbria University and commenced a 12 month placement with us as an Assistant Fieldwork Manager within our Asset Management Team. He will return to complete his Building Surveying degree in September 2015. His role involves the management and quality control of our external fieldwork surveyors, as well as carrying out stock condition surveys, validation surveys, HHSRS and intrusive structural surveys on projects throughout the UK.
