Michael Dyson Associates Ltd has been appointed to design and project manage the external refurbishment of Park House in St Austell for Ocean Housing. Park House is a 12 storey residential tower block built by George Wimpey Ltd in 1967 of “No Fines” concrete on a structural frame; it is we believe the tallest residential building in Cornwall.
MDA has also been appointed to be CDM Co-ordinator for the project.
The building is suffering from concrete spalling, grimy walls, poor thermal performance and general ageing.
The scheme will provide a new insulated roofing system, concrete repairs and high performance wall coatings. The aim of the work is to improve thermal performance, correct concrete defects, reduce the rate of decay and to provide a fresh and vibrant appearance.
Works are currently out to tender to experienced contractors with a south west skill base and appointment will be through the JCT suite of contracts with a partnering and best value approach to procurement and on site working. Programme of work is expected to take 26 weeks commencing in the summer of 2009.
