Nature of Work Undertaken
Michael Dyson Associates Ltd was commissioned by Shoreline Housing Partnership to carry out a full design service and contract administrator role for a sheltered housing scheme development at The Limes, Grimsby. Shoreline Housing Partnership had identified a number of sheltered schemes with the potential for remodelling to provide sheltered accommodation that people want to live in and be proud of. The aspiration was to consider the feasible and viable options for these schemes via a pilot project which consisted of 14 one bed flats and 14 bedsits situated in a semi-rural location. The client required Architects to produce imaginative solutions to their sheltered housing needs whilst ensuring stakeholder participation at all times.
The objectives of the scheme at The Limes were to provide a new, more inviting entrance, extend existing accommodation to provide additional units and improve communal spaces, modernise 10 existing units, convert bedsits into flats and improve external areas
The modernisation has brought the accommodation up to a higher standard with considerable improvements including:
- Improved security features
- New reception, guest bedroom, communal room, scooter store and conservatory
- Brand new, integrated door entry, fire detection and emergency call system
- Improved disability access
- A new communal heating system sourced from a renewable ground source heat pump
- Redesigned external features including landscaping of patio areas and communal gardens
