Code For Sustainable Homes Assessments
Launched in December 2006 by the (then) Department for Communities & Local Government, the Code for Sustainable Homes set a new national standard for the design and construction of new homes in England and Wales.
The Code sets out sustainable design requirements in nine key performance areas:
- Energy management and the emission of CO2
- The management of water usage within and around the home
- Choice of materials to minimise negative impacts on the environment
- Managing surface water run-off, hard surfacings and mitigating flood risk
- Domestic and site waste management
- Pollution control
- Health and well-being related to daylighting, sound insulation, private space & Lifetime Homes
- Management of the construction process and the induction of new occupiers
- Managing the impact of new developments on the local ecology and the biological infrastructure
Michael Dyson Associates Ltd considers it an imperative to lead our clients toward best practice from the very outset of their projects. Intrinsic to this ethos is the incorporation of Code for Sustainable Homes assessments as part of our core design service; giving our clients all the more reason to retain our traditional services and gain added value and performance through the introduction of the sustainability agenda from project inception through to occupation and beyond.
