Contract Administration

A construction project involves relying on a contractor to fully understand and deliver the client’s requirements often within financial and time constraints whilst generating sufficient profit to make the project commercially worthwhile.

There is thus a tension between the client’s and the contractor’s objectives which needs to be managed in fair and equitable terms. This can be a complicated and daunting task so construction projects are governed by a detailed contract. There are many “standard” forms of contract produced by recognised bodies such as the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) or Construction Clients Board (NEC) which are presented in a range of forms to suit the nature of the project. The forms are generic and generally require a degree of modification to tailor them to the client’s requirements.

The service of choosing the correct form of contract, tailoring it to the project and ensuring the particular terms and requirements are met over the life of the project is usually undertaken by a Contract Administrator whose primary role is to protect the client’s interests through proper drafting and administration of the construction contract.

The Contract Administrator role has been a core service provided by Michael Dyson Associates Ltd since the company was incorporated in 1994.
